Our commitment to ethical trading and the steps we take to ensure slavery and human trafficking are not present in our business or supply chains
Voluntary statement
The Modern Slavery Act 2015 requires organisations with annual turnover above £36 million to publish an annual statement. Fairfield Hearing is below this threshold. We are publishing this voluntary statement because transparency about our supply chains and employment practices is consistent with the values on which this practice was founded.
Our Organisation
Fairfield Hearing is an independent private audiology practice operating from two clinics in Edinburgh, Scotland, providing hearing assessments, hearing aid fitting and supply, ear wax removal, and related audiological services. We are a small, family-founded business employing a small clinical and administrative team.
Our Supply Chains
Our principal supply relationships are with:
- Hearing aid manufacturers: We source hearing aids from major international manufacturers including Oticon (William Demant Group, Denmark), Phonak (Sonova Group, Switzerland), Starkey (USA), GN ReSound (GN Group, Denmark), Signia/Widex (WS Audiology), and Bernafon/Unitron (Sonova Group). All are large, established companies with published modern slavery and ethical trading policies.
- Audiology consumables: Batteries, domes, tubes, wax filters, and ear protection – sourced through UK audiology distributors.
- IT and software services: Practice management software, email, and website hosting – sourced from established UK and European providers.
- Professional services: Accountancy, legal, and marketing – sourced from UK-based professionals.
Risk Assessment
The primary area of potential risk is in the electronics manufacturing supply chains of the global hearing aid manufacturers we work with, which include operations in Southeast Asia. We mitigate this risk by:
- Sourcing from manufacturers who are members of the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) or equivalent ethical trading frameworks, or who publish Modern Slavery statements
- Preferring manufacturers with transparent supply chain auditing programmes
- Reviewing the Modern Slavery statements of our principal suppliers annually
Our direct employment practices carry low inherent risk – we employ a small team of qualified, HCPC-registered professionals in Scotland, engaged under compliant employment contracts at or above the National Living Wage with full employment rights.
Our Commitments
- Paying all employees and contractors promptly and at or above the National Living Wage
- Providing written contracts to all staff and contractors
- Not using unpaid trial work or excessive unpaid overtime
- Maintaining a safe, non-discriminatory workplace
Due Diligence
We will review the modern slavery and ethical trading statements of our principal suppliers annually as part of our supplier review process, and will raise concerns directly with any supplier whose practices fall below acceptable standards.
