Why Reviews Really Make a Difference

20 March 2026

At Fairfield Hearing, patient care always comes first. Client reviews offer a genuine reflection of that care, written by real people who have experienced our service first-hand.

Why Patient Reviews Mean So Much

Summary

In this blog, our founder and leading audiologist Stephen Fairfield reflects on why customer reviews matter and shares a recent heartfelt comment from a long-standing patient. He explains how time, trust, and clinical expertise sit at the centre of everything Fairfield Hearing do.

A Thank You from Fairfield Hearing, Edinburgh

From time to time, we find ourselves reading through our Google reviews. It is something we try to do often, although like many busy clinics, finding the time to reply to every kind comment can be a challenge. Even so, every single review is noticed, appreciated, and valued... perhaps more than perhaps people realise.

At Fairfield Hearing, we have never been in the regular habit of asking patients to leave reviews. When someone chooses to do so, it tends to come from a really genuine place. That makes their words all the more meaningful. For anyone looking for an audiologist in Edinburgh or considering a hearing test, there is nothing quite as reassuring as hearing directly from someone who has already been through the experience.

Reviews matter even more today because so many areas of healthcare have changed. Appointments can feel rushed, conversations shorter than they should be, and it is not always easy to find time with a clinician who will simply sit and listen. Because of that, the honest reflections of patients carry real weight. They offer a glimpse into what care actually feels like, not just what is promised.

We also recognise that leaving a review is not always straightforward. Many of our patients are not particularly comfortable with online systems or digital platforms. So when someone takes the time to write about their experience, it genuinely means a great deal to all of us.

Recently, one review stood out in a way that was both simple and deeply meaningful. It came from a patient we know well, Eileen, who wrote that visiting Fairfield Hearing felt like visiting a family doctor in the past, where people have time for you and nothing is too much trouble. This is what she said:

"The people at Fairfield Hearing remind me of the family doctor we all had as children. Everybody is so helpful and friendly and they genuinely care about their patients. Although it’s a business of course I feel that their first priority is the care of their patients rather than making money out of them. A rare quality in this day and age."

Words that Matter

That short comment stayed with us. Not because it was flattering, although of course it was, but because it captured something we care deeply about. In a world that often moves too quickly, time has become one of the most important parts of good hearing care.

Fairfield Hearing Reviews

We are not simply here to provide hearing aids. In many ways, that is only a small part of what we do. Our work begins with conversation. It begins with understanding how hearing loss is affecting someone’s life, their relationships, and their confidence. A proper hearing test should never feel rushed or transactional. It should feel like the start of a conversation that leads to clarity and reassurance.

There is also an important element of belief in clinical care. Patients need to feel confident that something can help them. They need to feel supported as they adapt to new technology or new ways of hearing. At the same time, we as clinicians need to have belief in the patient, that they can make that transition successfully and that it will genuinely improve their quality of life.

Eileen’s words reflected something we have always hoped patients would feel, that Fairfield Hearing is not just a clinic, but a place where people are treated with care, patience, and respect. We often describe ourselves as a family practice, and that is not simply a phrase. It shapes how we approach every appointment. Whether someone comes in for ear wax removal, microsuction, or a full hearing assessment, the aim is always the same. To give them time, to listen properly, and to provide advice that is honest and clear.

So this is really a thank you. To Eileen, and to everyone else who has taken the time to leave a review, we are incredibly grateful. Your words do more than you might think. They help others feel comfortable about taking that first step. They reassure people who may have been putting things off. They remind us why we do what we do.

If you or someone in your family has concerns about hearing, or simply wants to ask a question, you are always welcome to get in touch. You can call, email, or come in and have a conversation. You will be given time, understanding, and straightforward advice. And if you do choose to leave a review afterwards, please know that it will be read, appreciated, and never taken for granted.
